The Michigan Department of Agriculture mandated the use of radio frequency identification as the official identification required for cattle to move from a premises beginning March 1, 2007.  The Michigan RFID Education Task Force was established in 2006 as a cooperative effort of the Michigan State University Extension, Michigan Department of Agriculture, Michigan Farm Bureau, Michigan Cattlemen’s Association, and the Michigan Milk Producer Association.  The objective of this task force is to develop, deliver, and assess the impact of an educational effort to enhance adoption of radio frequency identification (RFID) of cattle in Michigan.  The task force is addressing this objective with a variety of industry print communications, media presentations, producer meetings, displays, and demonstration sites.
